Microsoft Bookings vs Doodle (2026): polls, pages, pricing

Last updated 7 min readPart of Microsoft Bookings: what it is and how it works20 sources

Choose Doodle if your main job is finding one time that suits a group (a board meeting, a panel, a workshop), you want the same tool for polls, sign-up sheets and a simple booking page, and you or your participants don't all use Microsoft 365. Keep Microsoft Bookings if you take appointments from customers for set services, need several staff on one booking page, and want everything inside Microsoft 365 with no per-seat bill.

The two overlap less than the search suggests. Doodle started as a group poll and added booking pages and 1:1 time offers. Bookings is an appointment tool: customers pick a free slot from your services and staff. In Microsoft 365 the thing that does Doodle's original job is Scheduling Poll in Outlook, which replaced FindTime, and Bookings vs FindTime and Scheduling Poll covers it.

Polls, booking pages and staff#

Doodle offers four things: a Group Poll (participants vote on proposed times), a Sign-up Sheet (people pick a session), a 1:1 (you send one person a list of your free times) and a Booking Page (anyone with the link books a slot). The Booking Page needs a connected Google or Office 365 calendar. It has duration, buffer time, minimum notice and custom questions on top of the name and email Doodle always collects. Pro adds poll deadlines, automatic reminders and hiding participants from each other. Team adds an admin console, roles, co-hosted events and booking on behalf of colleagues.

Bookings has no poll at all. What it has is structure for a team that takes appointments: a shared page with services, each with its own duration, buffers, staff list, custom questions and reminders, plus group services with a maximum attendee count (group bookings). When a customer chooses "Anyone", the FAQ says staff are "assigned randomly", with "no way to ensure equal distribution" (round robin). Doodle doesn't list round robin either, so neither tool fixes that.

For a single person, Bookings with me is the closer match to a Doodle Booking Page. The Personal Bookings FAQ says it "can only be used for 1:1 meetings", and bookers don't need a Microsoft account. Microsoft now calls it Personal Bookings.

What we saw when testing (September 2026)#

The booking step itself differs. On a personal Bookings page, Microsoft emails a 6-digit code when the visitor first submits, and the booking is only created when the code is sent back. A wrong code is rejected. Shared pages ask for a code only when that setting is on. Personal links can also fail outright for some visitors. On a Microsoft Q&A thread about clients who couldn't book through a personal link (70+ "same question" votes), one poster wrote in January 2024 that their organization "switched to Doodle meetings instead" (link not working). We haven't tested Doodle's booking flow.

Embedding and branding#

Bookings gives a shared page an iframe embed code, colours and a logo. The "Powered by Microsoft Bookings" footer can't be removed (footer), and personal pages have no embed code (embedding Bookings with me).

Doodle's pages we read describe putting the Booking Page link on your website and in your email signature. We found no embed code in its help centre. Custom logo and branding are listed from Pro in the pricing table, and branded booking pages, emails and URLs are listed for Enterprise. Free plans show ads to organizers and participants, which matters if clients see the page.

Integrations: Outlook, Teams and Zapier#

Doodle connects Google, Office 365 and Apple iCloud calendars, up to 10 in total, but "it is not possible to connect a sub-calendar or shared calendar". Exchange isn't mentioned. Doodle also has an Outlook add-in, installed from Get Add-ins in a new message, that shows your polls and booking pages in Outlook. Teams links are "a Doodle Professional feature" and need "a Microsoft 365 Business or Microsoft 365 Education account". Each booked event gets its own link, and participants don't need Teams. Zapier is listed from Pro.

Bookings lives inside Microsoft 365, so Outlook and Teams need no setup beyond turning on the online meeting for a service. It has no webhooks. Its Power Automate connector is in preview, only Bookings admins can build flows, and each Bookings mailbox allows five (webhooks).

Payments#

Doodle collects payment through Stripe on booking pages: participants pay before they get a confirmation. Its pricing page is inconsistent about which plan includes it. The plan cards list "Get paid with Stripe" under Team, while the comparison table marks it as included on every plan, Free included. Check with Doodle before relying on it. The Bookings FAQ says "there's no payment support in Bookings" (payments).

Data and compliance#

Doodle AG is based in Zürich. Its data processing addendum says processing "will occur in the European Union (EU), in Switzerland and perhaps (other) jurisdictions", and that data is encrypted with TLS 1.2 or higher in transit and AES-256 at rest. Its "Why Doodle" page lists "ISO 27001 compliant AWS infrastructure" and "SOC 2 Type II and Cyber Verify Level 3 accredited" without saying who holds those certificates, so ask Doodle for the reports if procurement needs them. SSO is on Enterprise.

Bookings stores everything in Exchange Online shared mailboxes in your tenant, under your existing Microsoft 365 policies (where Bookings stores data).

Pricing#

Bookings has no separate price; it comes with the Microsoft 365 and Office 365 plans Microsoft lists, including Business Basic (licence requirements). Doodle's own Bookings comparison, updated in September 2026, says Bookings needs Business Standard, which doesn't match the list Microsoft publishes.

When to keep Microsoft Bookings#

  • You book customers into services with set durations, staff and buffers, not one-off group meetings.
  • Your team already has an eligible Microsoft 365 plan and doesn't want another per-seat tool.
  • You need a page several staff share, with an embed for your website.
  • Group scheduling inside the organization can run on Scheduling Poll in Outlook.

When to switch to Doodle#

  • You mostly schedule meetings for groups, often with people outside Microsoft 365.
  • You want polls, sign-up sheets and a booking page in one tool.
  • You need to take a Stripe payment before a booking is confirmed.
  • Your calendars are spread across Google, iCloud and Office 365.

Keeping Bookings and filling the gaps with BookingsXP#

If you're looking at Doodle because the Bookings page is awkward to put on your website, BookingsXP builds a branded widget from your public shared booking page link, with templates and your colours, and no admin consent. Appointments are still created in Microsoft Bookings, so Outlook, Teams and the confirmation email work as before. It doesn't run polls or take payments, so for group votes use Scheduling Poll or Doodle.
