“Why can't people book through my Bookings with me link?”

Short answer
Usually for one of five reasons: you shared the wrong kind of link, your account doesn't have a Bookings licence, your admin has turned Personal Bookings off, a new tenant or licence hasn't finished setting up, or Microsoft's service is having a temporary fault. Work through the checks below in order. The first two cover most "link not valid" and "goes nowhere" reports. If bookers can open the page but are stopped by a code or a guest screen, that's a separate issue, covered in turning off email verification.
Quick diagnosis#
| Symptom | Likely cause | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Link works for you, "goes nowhere" for others | A private meeting-type link or a used single-use link was shared | Section 1 |
| You see "You do not have access to Bookings with me" | Licence without Bookings (for example A1) | Section 2 |
| Page never loads for anyone, or has disappeared | Personal Bookings disabled by policy | Section 3 |
| New tenant or new licence, link says it's not valid | Setup still in progress | Section 4 |
| "Transient issue with Personal Bookings" | Service-side error | Section 5 |
1. Share the page link, not a meeting-type link#
Bookings with me has three kinds of link:
- The page link. Copy it from the Personal booking page heading on the Bookings home page. It shows all public meeting types.
- A meeting-type link. This comes from the share icon or See More on a meeting type tile. A private meeting type can only be reached through its own link.
- A single-use link. Private meeting types can generate these, and they're valid for one booking.
In one 2026 Q&A thread, a "Book with me" link went nowhere because a meeting-type link had been shared instead of the page link. If the meeting type was later deleted, switched to private or used up as a single-use link, the old link stops working. Open the page link in a private browser window to see exactly what a booker sees.
2. Check your licence#
The organizer needs a Bookings licence. Personal and shared Bookings share the same licensing model. Bookings is included in Office 365 A3, A5, E1, E3, E5, F1, F3, G1, G3 and G5, and in Microsoft 365 A3, A5, E1, E3, E5, F1, F3, Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, Teams Essentials and Teams Premium. Outlook on the web must also be enabled. A Microsoft moderator has confirmed that A1 licences don't include Bookings, which explains many "Book with me doesn't work for my students or staff" reports from schools. See Microsoft Bookings licence requirements.
3. Ask your admin about the Personal Bookings policy#
Admins control Personal Bookings with an OWA mailbox policy:
Get-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity "OwaMailboxPolicy-Default" | Select PersonalBookingsDisabled
Get-CASMailbox -Identity user@contoso.com | Select OwaMailboxPolicyIf PersonalBookingsDisabled is True on the policy assigned to your mailbox, your page won't work. Two details catch admins out:
- The EWS controls are gone. As of August 5, 2026 (Message Center MC1418559),
Set-OrganizationConfigandSet-CASMailboxEWS settings no longer control Personal Bookings. Only the OWA mailbox policy does. An admin who blocked or allowed Personal Bookings the old way should check the OWA policy now. Microsoft's article still shows the older EWS check commands, but its note says the OWA policy is now the control. - The Bookings app must be enabled for the user. Personal Bookings works even if shared Bookings is turned off in tenant settings, as long as the app itself is available to you.
Disabling Microsoft Bookings for users covers the admin side in more detail.
4. Allow time on a new tenant or licence#
In a 2026 thread about a brand-new personal link showing "link not valid", the moderator's first questions were how old the tenant was and when the licence was assigned. Microsoft doesn't document how long setup takes. If both are new, wait and try again later before changing settings. If the Bookings home page itself hangs on creating your page, users have reached it directly at https://outlook.office.com/bookings/homepage.
5. "Transient issue with Personal Bookings"#
This error message appears in several 2025 Q&A threads, and none has a documented cause or fix. For shared pages, Microsoft says transient syncing errors "usually resolve themselves after a few minutes". Try again in a private browser window, then from another network. If the error keeps coming back over several hours, open a Microsoft support case. The Q&A forum mostly redirects these questions elsewhere.
If some clients still can't book#
The highest-voted thread (77 "same question" votes) describes some clients hitting an error page while others book fine, and it has no documented fix. The poster's organization moved to another tool. If a client-facing link has to work every time, a single-staff shared booking page gives you more control: access settings, a publish switch and per-service links.
