Where the confusion came from#

The 2023 Microsoft Q&A thread (7 "same question" votes) came from a large company planning to move from Bookings to the Virtual Appointments app because it believed Bookings was being retired. Microsoft support answered that no retirement date had been announced, and that the two were different products. Virtual Appointments was "an interface on top of Bookings".

In the end the opposite happened. The Virtual Appointments app is gone, and Microsoft Learn now tells those users to go back to Bookings. Anyone who moved in 2023 would have had to move back.

The mobile app retirement added to the confusion. Headlines about "Microsoft Bookings" retiring in 2023 were about the phone apps. The service itself carried on.

What exists today#

As of September 2026, Microsoft documents:

• The Bookings web app at book.ms, and Bookings as an app you can add in Teams and Outlook.
• Shared booking pages for teams, and personal pages (Bookings with me).
• The same list of Microsoft 365 and Office 365 plans that include Bookings. See which licence Bookings needs.
• Advanced scheduling features, such as SMS and the queue, that need Teams Premium.

The Bookings app in Teams isn't supported in GCC, GCC High, DoD or the sovereign clouds, according to the Teams admin article. That's a long-standing limit, not a retirement.

What the roadmap shows#

When we checked the Microsoft 365 public roadmap on 2026-09-24, it listed no items for Bookings: no new features and no retirements. That's what the roadmap showed on one day, not a forecast in either direction.

The more useful fact is the notice policy Microsoft publishes. Under the Modern Lifecycle Policy, Microsoft gives "a minimum of 12 months' notification prior to ending support if no successor product or service is offered". It gives at least 30 days' notice when customers must act to avoid disruption. A Bookings retirement would reach admins as a message center post well ahead of time, not through a forum answer.

How to keep watch#

• In the Microsoft 365 admin center, open Health → Message center and filter for Bookings. You can set up email digests there, so changes reach whoever owns Bookings in your organization.
• Keep an inventory of your shared booking pages, their owners and where each link is published. If Microsoft ever does announce a change, you'll know what's affected. The Bookings admin checklist covers this.
